Why are Polish Steam prices so high?

Steam supports multiple currencies and provides tools for developers so they don’t have to set prices manually for each currency. In October 2022, when the Polish Złoty was very weak compared to the USD and EUR, Valve updated the exchange rates used for recommended prices. As Polish Złoty appreciated, Polish prices on Steam have became one of the highest in the world.

Valve promised to update the exchange rate, but they haven’t done it for over two years.
Currently, Polish game prices recommended by Valve are among the highest in the world. Gamers from much wealthier countries (e.g., USA, EU, UK, Norway) pay less for the same games, which is unfair to Polish gamers. We urge you to adjust your prices to the Polish market and the purchasing power of Polish consumers. If Steam prices are too high, players will turn to grey-market key resellers like G2A, Kinguin, or even piracy.

PLN ~4.60

The unfair PLN/USD exchange rate that Valve uses to recommend prices to developers/publishers on Steam.

Dear developer/publisher,
Adjust your price to the Polish market!

If you care about increasing sales on the Polish market, adjust your price in PLN to the purchasing power of Polish gamers. You can use the current USD or EUR exchange rate,
or consider the lower purchasing power of Polish consumers and set a price below the current exchange rate — many developers and publishers have already done so, including CD Projekt Red, Bethesda, Obsidian, Supergiant Games, New Blood Interactive, indie.io, and many others.
If your Steam prices are too high, Polish players will turn to key resellers or piracy.

Developers/publishers with fair prices ❤️

The prices of games from these developers are not overpriced for Polish players:
